complete mock trial starter kit

Run your first mock trial with confidence.

When I found out the signature moment of our 7th grade curriculum would be a mock trial, my first reaction was excitement—wow, that’s so powerful!

But as the unit grew closer, that excitement was quickly replaced with a growing sense of panic.

I had never participated in a mock trial before. Outside of what I’d seen on Judge Judy and Legally Blonde, I didn’t know the first thing about courtroom procedures. I couldn’t have told you the difference between civil and criminal law, and I certainly didn’t know a lack of foundation from a leading question.

And logistically? I was terrified.

I spent hours—days even—researching how to build a curriculum that would—hopefully—suffice.

Now, years later, mock trial has become one of my favorite classroom experiences and one of my students’ favorites too.

This guide is everything I wish someone had handed me before my very first trial.
